We are excited to invite you to the eighth seminar in our series, hosted by the EAWE Technical Wake and Wind Farm Aerodynamics Committee. Mark your calendars for March 27, 2025!

Join us for an insightful webinar on “Coherent dynamics in the near wake of a wind turbine.”

🎤 Speaker: Dr.
Neelakash Biswas,
Imperial College London
📅 Date: March 27, 2025
🕒 Time: 4:00 PM CET (1 hour)

In this session, Neelakash will delve into the complex dynamics of wind turbine wakes, focusing on the various coherent structures like tip vortices, vortex shedding from the nacelle and tower, and wake meandering. The talk will explore how these structures evolve depending on the tip speed ratio (λ) and incoming freestream turbulence levels. Using advanced techniques such as Fourier analysis, modal decomposition, and coherent kinetic energy budget analysis, the speaker will share insights from particle image velocimetry (PIV) experiments conducted on a small-scale wind turbine model. Key findings include the energy sources driving tip vortex structures and the role of mean flow in energizing wake meandering. Don’t miss this opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of wind turbine wake behavior!

About the EAWE Technical Wake and Wind Farm Aerodynamics Committee
Founded in May 2021, our committee provides a collaborative platform for knowledge exchange in wake and wind farm aerodynamics. Led by Stefan Ivanell (Uppsala University), we organize the bi-annual Wake Conference and lead initiatives to explore innovative modeling and experimentation techniques in the field.
